The United Way of Northwest Louisiana is encouraging citizens to Live United by participating in random acts of kindness around their communities. We will be featuring stories from these displays of kindness; we hope that these posts serve to inspire you in your everyday lives.

Spreading the Word
I don't know if he will want me to share his random act of kindness, but it was so touching and amazingly helpful that I can't help but share it with you all. Joe Kane took it upon himself to have a billboard designed for Random Acts of Kindness Day and displayed it on several digital billboards this weekend to spread the word about doing good. We so appreciate his kind spirit and have gotten a lot of wonderful feedback from people seeing our billboards around town! Thank you Joe :)
Flowers Around Town
To spread a little goodwill and make people smile, Casey and I went around downtown delivering flowers to people walking to and from meetings or on their way to lunch. A few ladies were so touched they gave us big bear hugs! It was really nice to see people having a little bit nicer of a day after our flower deliveries.
Money in the Meter
A co-worker was on a mission to do something unexpected and nice today and she found the perfect opportunity when she walked passed an expired parking meter. She popped a quarter in and continued on her way--we don't know whose car it was but we hope it made their day a little brighter!

Unexpected Flowers
This morning I received news that a friend had passed away and a co-worker sensed my sadness. She surprised me with this bouquet. I think what I liked best about it was that it wasn’t a slick or expense gesture, but a simple gesture from the heart. I also couldn’t help but notice the lovely LSU colors that matched my attire!

Tell Us Your Story.
June 21, 2010.
One day. One little way to make a big difference.
Live United. Be kind.
The United Way's National Day of Action revolves around one central idea: the philosophy that everyone can create change in his/her community. We invite you to reach out to the people surrounding you: your neighbors, co-workers, family members, friends, and even the strangers who cross your path everyday. Make your community stronger, brighten some days, and inspire others to action both today and every day. Random acts of kindness are a perfect way to Live United because although they are tailored to the individual, they create community and good will among participants. Remember that every good deed creates a ripple effect; perhaps your kindness will come back to you one day!
Some suggestions: Leave a friendly note that will make someone smile. Refill an expired parking meter. Give flowers for no special reason to someone you love. Donate needed items to a local animal shelter, food bank, or community foundation. Send a thank you card to a public official. Help a person in need.
The possibilities are endless!
TELL US ABOUT IT!
We would love to hear about your experiences with Random Acts of Kindness. Send us an email at volunteers@unitedwaynwla.org or post a comment on our Facebook page, and we will post your story online. This way, your act can have an even larger impact, inspiring new people every single day!
